Bus Riders Union March today.

The Bus Riders Union is holding a rally on the steps of L.A City Hall today, Thursday Nov. 14th at 3:30 pm. Our objective is to challenge James Hahn and the MTA Board of Directors to uphold the civil rights of 450,000 working class Black, Chicana/o,Latina/o, Asian, and Indigenous bus riders by completely implementing the Consent Decree. During his first year, James Hahn made public commitments to the BRU such as appointing a transit dependent bus rider to the MTA board. The mayor controls four votes inside the MTA board, yet he has shown that he is not willing to take the lead on civil rights enforcement.

The Demands are: 1.) Immediately order 850 new expansion buses 2.) Commit to oppose any further appeals to the Consent Decree and to support the purchase and operation of future expansion buses ordered by the special master 3.) Institute permanent and dependable public comment at the beginning of every MTA board meeting 4.) Guarantee access to the discount student bus pass and reduce it to 10 dollars a month.
