Hijas De Juarez

by sparc Monday, Nov. 04, 2002 at 7:41 PM

320+ women have mysteriously disapeared from Juarez over the course of the decade to turn up later as corpses in the desert. SPARC and Venice's Beyond Baroque and Placita Olvera are bringing this horrifying reality to LA in attempt to build pressure to solve these crimes.

SPARC begins a yearlong project to bring awareness to the plight of the 320
plus women of Juarez, Mexico who have been abducted, raped, tortured and
murdered, The intention of the project is to engage and mobilize the general
public on these horrific murders and bring resolution to crimes that to this
day remain unsolved and continue.  (Just last week, the bodies of two more
young women were found.)

Please support this cause by fowarding this e-mail to your contact lists and
by showing up to the opening exhibit.  We will have different donation boxes
for organizations in Juarez, which you can support financially.  Every penny
is needed, but most importantly, every voice is needed.  It is crucial that
people are aware of this crime against humanity, we need international
pressure to stop the genocide in Juarez, Mexico.

Inidignation

Threre has been long time since this sounding cases has gone throught the media all over the world, there has been many speeches (promises too) from polititians about this unsolved case. And many of sospiciuos guys have been put in jai, letting the public opinion believe that the murders would stop then, and they haven't yet. Lies and corruption has hold the true assesiants to be caught up. I believe someone has to do something to stop these crimes, meanwhile, we can't stop protesting for the muders of these women, till the authorities really make justice.

So you're bringing your protest to LA? Maybe you don't realize that we've had over 600 murders here just LAST YEAR ALONE! Why don't you fix that little problem?

Co-Curator of the Hijas de Juarez Exhibit

by Victoria Delgadillo Friday, Feb. 28, 2003 at 10:36 AM
bccla@earthlink.net

I understand your anger---sadly, it is true that women are disappearing from Los Angeles as well. I learned this through organizing the Hijas de Juarez exhibit. Our presentation was a beginning point in which we honored the lives of all women who have been murdered in a world---a world in which no one seems to care. Well---we care. Our idea was to create a community dialogue about the objectification of human lives. I beleive this is a human issue, not a man-woman, nor a United States-Other Countries issue. I realize to most this may seem like a huge endeavor to accomplish----ensuring the safety and respect for all human lives. Yet, my thought is that turning a blind eye filled with anger and resentment paralyzes us to act as a human and thereby creates a stagnant humanity.
