A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quick download (3.3MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast. China, Germany, Cuba, and Russia.

Dear Radio Friend,

The latest Shortwave Report (October 11) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.3MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:04) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.

This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you should be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/

There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PDST) and on Monday at 9amPDST.

Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/

streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PDST

and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio

This week's show features stories from China Radio International, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Havana Cuba, and the Voice Of Russia.

From China- George Bush’s Monday pep rally is reviewed, as are the anti-war demonstrations in the US. Then responses to the speech from various nations around the world. Iraq will hold a referendum on Saddam Hussein’s presidency next week. US/ British bombing raids on Iraq continued this week.

From Germany- Bush’s “Strike First!” military doctrine has been heavily criticized in Europe, even called “simply crazy.” Then a commentary on the effectiveness of the US bombing of Afghanistan, one year after it began.

From Cuba- Skepticism over Bush’s plans for war is widespread, even British voters oppose it by a 2 to 1 margin. Pressure from California US Representitive Mike Thompson has led to an acknowledgement by the Defense Department that the government has covertly tested biological and chemical weapons on its own troops. Thompson has been recently slammed for visiting Bagdhad.

From Russia- A commentary on Bush’s latest speech on Iraq, pointing out the fallacy of his comparison of the Cuban Missle Crisis and the current situation. Russia insists on no artificial barriers to UN inspectors in Iraq. Israel’s attack Monday on a refugee camp in Gaza, killing 14 unarmed civilians, has been widely condemned as absolutely disproportionate. Israel’s Wednesday attack on civilians protesting Monday’s massacre has also been widely condemned.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!
