Sunday, October 6, marks the anniversary eve of the day U.S. bombs began falling on Afghanistan. It will also mark a year of the government's war on people's rights in the U.S.
But Sunday, October 6, must also mark something else. It must be a major showing of defiance and resistance by people in the U.S. to this whole machine of war and repression.
On that day, OUR PLEDGE OF RESISTANCE needs to echo across the country - from Central Park in New York City ("ground zero"), from San Francisco, Los Angeles and all over, so that it is heard in the White House and all across the planet. Our voices, as one, will make clear that people in the U.S. are taking responsibility to oppose, resist, and STOP the injustices done by our own government in our name.
On October 6 WE WILL SAY NO to the governmen's onslaught of war - on Afghanistan now; on Iraq tomorrow; and all the other future wars threatened by Bush & Cheney & company in what they promise will be a "20-year war." They have killed thousands of innocent people in Afghanistan. They will kill many tens of thousands more in Iraq - in addition to the thousands of Iraquis killed by on-going bombing and economic sanctions - if they get their way. And their reckless moves and new "doctrines" have put the very future of the planet in terrible doubt. This is intolerable. On October 6th we will stand in solidarity with the people of the world.
On October 6th we sill step out against the government roundup and secret detention of immigrants, the racial profiling and hate mongering against Muslims and people from the Middle East and South Asia, and the massive deportations. On October 6th we will stand united in our diversity and solidarity.
On October 6 we will step out against government repression and defend civil rights. We will not let them spy on our political movements. We will not be intimidated. We refuse to be snitches for John Ashcroft. On October 6 we will say NO to Ashcroft's police state measures.
EXPRESS YOUR HUNGER FOR JUSTICE! Reach out your hand to the people of the world. Let people here and worldwide take hope as they hear the voices of many thousands, unmistakably clear: NOT IN OUR NAME!
