Santa Monica California September 24, 2002
Santa Monica City Counsel listened to approximately 150 area residents as it attempts to decide on a new city ordinance which would prohibit the distribution of food to the homeless by private sector charities on public property. Included in the ordinance are provisions making the sitting or lying in downtown area doorways illegal during the late night and early morning hours.
In opposition to the measure, The Lawyer’s Guild in conjunction with food distribution organizations fed the homeless on the front lawn of city hall.
