On April 29, 2002 a complaint was filed in California Superior Court in Los Angeles and thus Case BC273043 was official. Eva Georgia and two other former employees of the Gay and Lesbian Center of Long Beach are suing for wrongful termination, discrimination, retaliation, defamation and more. In the complaint Georgia and her co-plaintiffs are demanding a jury trial.
But the Non-Profit Community Center is fighting back. They filed a cross-complaint, and are demanding a jury trial as well.
A status conference on the case is scheduled for Tuesday, September 24th at 8:30 am at the Los Angeles County, California Superior Court House located at 111 North Hill Street, in downtown LA. To observe the proceedings go upstairs to department 25.
I find it hard to believe that KPFK would've hired someone bringing a lawsuit against a Gay and Lesbian Center.
Did the new GM cover this up?
If so, she should be fired instantly.
considering how many folks have been fired without cause under mark schubb at kpfk between 1995 and 2001, i think we should hear the facts of the case before rushing to judgment. perhaps eva georgia had good reason to sue: many nonprofits engage in abusive labor practices.
the question is: Did the Listeners Know?
And the answer is NO
The process was heralded as open, transparent and DEMOCRATIC - but only a handful of insiders were aware of the fact that Ms. Georgia was suing the Gay and Lesbian Center.
All that the listeners were told was that Ms. Georgia had been "fully vetted".
The listeners were NOT told that in the complaint filed on April 29th Eva Georgia's former supervisor, Pat Crosby is cited as having made the following statements about Eva Georgia:
"she [GEORGIA] was a 'liar', 'cheater', 'did not do the work', 'could not be trusted', 'physically attacked'. . ."
In her official capacity as General Manager of KPFK, Eva Georgia gave a report during the meeting of the interim Pacifica National Board this past weekend:
“. . . I also want to thank the archives, when I came into the building 3 months ago – yeah, I’ve been at the station now three months – the archives, when I came in there was no communication between the station and the archives "
What she said is simply NOT TRUE.
Once Steven Starr became GM the lines of communication opened between the Archives and the station. The director of the archives participated in the fund drive months before Eva Georgia started.
Unfortunately, there are serious questions about Ms. Gerogia's credibility.
