A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion recorded from a shortwave radio. 2 files- broadcast quality (13.4MB) and quick download (3.4MB). With times and freqs for listening at home. Free to rebroadcast upon notification. Russia, Germany, Netherlands, Spain, and Cuba.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (September 20) is up at the website http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml in both broadcast quality 13.4MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (29:22) It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired at 7pm PDST this Friday evening at KZYX/Z Philo CA and you MIGHT be able to stream via http://www.kzyx.org/ It worked last week!
There are several other streams that work quite well- http://members.cruzio.com/~frsc/ Freak Radio Santa Cruz streams this program on Friday at 5:35pm (PDST) and on Monday at 9amPDST.
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- http://www.rinku.zaq.ne.jp/bkaec205/
streaming the SWR at Fri 10:30PM/ Sat 10:30AM PM/ Sun 10:30AM PDST
and the Partytown streams are great and informative- http://www.partytown.com/radio
This week's show features stories from the Voice of Russia, Radio Deutsche Welle, Radio Netherlands, Spanish National Radio, and Radio Havana Cuba.
From Russia- Iraq’s decision to allow UN weapons inspections received a positive response from the majority of nations in the world. Without surprise, the US and Tony Blair expressed skepticism at the announcement, and Nelson Mandela’s words of caution rang throughout the week.
From Germany- An analysis of the credulity of Iraq’s acceptance of UN weapons inspectors. Then the international campaign to ban landmines expresses worry that the US and its ally might use anti-personel mines in Iraq- the US has a stockpile of 11 million landmines. Guatemala and Belize have reached a draft agreement on their 143 year-old land dispute.
From Netherlands- US troops are in Yemen training troops and gathering intelligence, and maybe doing a manhunt. 8 European protestors were arrested in Columbia for involvement in a national strike.
From Spain- In Columbia, troops were put on alert and the sale of alcohol banned during a state worker’s strike over reduced wages. In Spain, leaders of the now banned Batasuna political party say last weekend’s riots were the fault of the government.
From Cuba- Under pressure from the US based Occidental Petroleum, Columbian military have been deployed to protect an oil pipeline. As Bush pushes for an attack on Iraq, a change has occured in the makeup of the UN weapons inspectors- they are no longer under the direction of the US, and involve no US government staff. 10 million Brazilians voted in a referendum to withdraw from the proposed Free Trade Area of the Americas- 98% were opposed.
All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt!

--"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." -Julius Caesar
