THE INTERNATIONALE, AN AWARD-WINNING DOCUMENTARY ABOUT A RADICAL SONG, TO BE SHOWN THIS SUNDAY NIGHT AT MIDNIGHT ON KCET LOS ANGELES PUBLIC TELEVISION!

THE INTERNATIONALE O...

Peter Miller’s half-hour documentary THE INTERNATIONALE will be broadcast on KCET, Los Angeles Public Television, on Sunday night, September 1 (technically Monday morning the 2nd), from midnight to 12:30 AM.

THE INTERNATIONALE tells the story of the famous anthem of the left, “The Internationale,” which has been sung by socialists, communists, anarchists, union members, and others in nearly every language and every country on earth. This is an extremely unusual programming choice for public television, and a good chance to reflect on the legacy of activism that inspires present-day movements for social and economic justice.

The film includes interviews with and performances by Pete Seeger, Billy Bragg, a veteran of the Spanish Civil War, a student leader from Tiananmen Square, and a host of people from around the world who tell stories about this emotionally charged song.

THE INTERNATIONALE has been shown at over two dozen film festivals and won the prize for Best Short Documentary at the 2001 Woodstock Film Festival. It was described by the Detroit Free Press as "a stirring documentary about the radical song and its impact on social change throughout the world.”

Radical History Review wrote about the film: “In his wonderful new documentary film THE INTERNATIONALE, Peter Miller brilliantly recreates the history, memory, and meanings of a song that has shaped the imagination and practice of internationalism for over a century…. THE INTERNATIONALE is an exceptionally compelling film."

The video is also available for activist, classroom, and community use. For more information, contact Peter Miller at PeterMiller@nyc.rr.com.
