SPFPA forms National Alliance of Police, Security and Corrections Organizations (NAPSCO) to protect and advance security unions nationwide.
The International Union, Security, Police and Fire Professionals of America (SPFPA) announced at its 2002 National Security summit this week in Detroit, the historic unification of four of the Nation's largest security unions and the formation of the National Alliance of Police, Security and Corrections Officers (NAPSCO). The Federation of Police, Security and Corrections Officers (FOPSCO) and the National Association of Special Police and Security Officers (NASPSO) and the American Federation of Security Officers (AFSO) are merging with the SPFPA reaffirming its position as the nation's largest security union.
In this historic move, the merged secuirty unions also announced the formation and founding of the National Alliance of Police, Security and Corrections Organizations (NAPSCO), a federation of independent secuirty unions. It is the AFL-CIO of security unions to advance the professionalism and welfare of security officers through legislation, education and training.
David L. Hickey, SPFPA International President and Chief Operating Officer of NAPSCO along with Howard E. Johannson, President of NAPSCO and FOPSCO, jointly conducted the first annual National Security Summit that attracted security unions and representatives of major security agencies from throughout to country. Amoung the topics discussed were the 9/11 Challenge to Private Security, State licensing and training, Homeland Security criteria and objectives, and Improving the Value and Performance of Security Officers through the new SPFPA National Training Program. To date, over a dozen security unions throughout the nation have contacted President Hickey with interest to become part of the National Alliance of Police, Security and Corrections Organizations (NAPSCO).
