Silent Sacred Walks
for
Peace and Unity

Since October of 2001 an independent group of individuals have banded together to participate in a silent peace walk every month in a different part of Los Angeles. The purpose of the walks are to create a sense of peace and unity for people around Los Angeles. There is also an interesting history behind the walk which you can read about on the Silent Sacred Walk website at www.sacredwalks.com. The walks have gained the support of several local organizations such as the Coalition for Non violence, Interfaith Communities United for Justice and Peace and the Agape International Spiritual Center. Still the walks have mostly been relatively small event catering to those people who are really committed to attaining a new perspective on life, the biggest walk had 170 people in attendance. The walks start at 8:00am in the morning and last for about an hour.

The philosophy behind the walk is captured in a well known quote by Gandhi, "There is no path to peace, peace is the path." As a reflection of this, during the walk there are no banners and no protest slogans. The walks are all about being pro peace and not anti anything. The organizers do not condemn anyone, neither the ones who may cause violence or the ones who may protest violence. It is the organizers view that one must push through that dialectical opposition to create a new reality.

Everyone is welcome to join, no need to call to join or send money. The only requirement is that you walk in silence and if possible that you wear white clothing. The next walk is coming up this Saturday August 10th in Pasadena at Villa Park near the corner of Villa St. and Garfield Ave. starting at 8am. For more information you can view the website at www.sacredwalks.com or call 310-877-9879 for more details. The last walk planned will culminate a years worth of walks in Silverlake on September 15th starting at the Silverlake Rec. Center and will walk around the Silverlake reservoir.

Walkers walking come rain or shine

At 8 O'clock in the morning on the weekend there aren't many people out but there are some.

The one who started it all.

wow, student massacres as sacrifice!

by chema Friday, Aug. 09, 2002 at 9:43 PM

I can see the value in these marches but I do not understand the re-writing of history just to suit your needs. Check out their page http://www.sacredwalks.com/regina.html for an interesting twist on the student massacres. This is creepy.
