A group of faith-based organizations is organizing a rally and march on August 10 from 4 - 6 p.m. to address current U.S.nuclear policy. The event will involve an indoor portion including music, poetry, speakers and letter-writing followed by an outdoor march. The keynote speaker will be Jonathan Parfrey of Physicians for Social Responsibility.
The event will address the recent withdrawal by the U.S. from nuclear weapons treaties and the plans by the Bush administration to develope "tactical nuclear" weapons that can be used in "conventional warfare."
Organizers hope to follow-up on this event with a campaign to oppose an escalated war against Iraq.
The event is being sponsored by a collaborative of the American Friends Service Committee, Throop Church Social Justice Committee, Neighborhood Church Social Advocacy Group, All Saints Episcopal Church, Pasadena Mennonite Church Mission Commission, Bartimaus Cooperative Ministries and the Southern California Ecumenical Association.
