Police and civilian killed

A policeman and a civilian were killed Wednesday evening in a Maoist attack of a police outpost at Kuleswhor in the capital shortly after 7 PM, police said. Another policeman and a civilian were also injured in the attack, police said.

There were no immediate reports of arrests. Officials said nearly 300 suspects have been arrested ahead of a five-day national strike called by Maoists beginning Saturday to mark the founding of the Communist Party of Nepal 50 years ago.

Rebels have been stepping up attacks in the Valley ahead of the strike.
