Does anybody believe these online polls? Yeah, I went and voted, and other people should too. But in a medium that is so completely dominated by middle and upper class white people, Netscape could have written the results before they even posted the poll.
And how about the way they worded the poll. The question is not whether the descendants of slaves are owed reparations, but whether the companies, universities and other institutions that built their capital on the backs of slaves should be required to give up some of that ill-gotten wealth and give it to the descendants of people they oppressed to get it. In the same way that their capital has grown over time from the original capital they earned through slavery and the use of slaves, the oppression has grown through a kind of interest to their descendants. We don't start out on an equal footing in this country today, and slavery is one major reason for that.
