WHERE: UC Santa Cruz’s Upper Quarry Amphitheater
Santa Cruz, CA – The Student Environmental Center (SEC) at UCSC will host the first annual Campus Earth Festival to build a more inclusive and engaging environmental community at UCSC, gather support for a more sustainable campus, and provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the greater Santa Cruz community to come together and celebrate our unique environment and diverse community. There will be a variety of student organizations and local environmental organizations tabling at the festival. Food and drinks will be available from student organizations and the Whole Earth Cafe.
The Campus Earth Festival will feature the live music of the Santa Cruz bluegrass band Strung Over,

http://www.greenhousenet.org/youthnetwork/usa.html Kevin Danaher will be speaking on “Corporate Accountability and the Alternative Economy.” This talk will focus on how corporate globalization is driven by the need to turn nature into money while finding the cheapest available labor. Dr. Danaher will also discuss the alternative grassroots movement being built by community-based organizations. Fred Keeley will be discussing local environmental issues as well as new environmental bills that will be introduced into the Assembly next year. Kristin Casper will talk about her work to get the University of California to adopt a 30% renewable energy policy at all UC campuses.
SEC has organized the Campus Earth Festival with the support of the Alumni Association, Porter College, College Eight, Merrill College, Kresge College, SOAR, GLBT Resource Center, and Center for Justice Tolerance and Community.
