READ THIS IF YOU FILED A "CIVIL CLAIM FORM" WITH THE CITY OF SEATTLE

LAST CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN LAWSUIT OVER SEATTLE WTO PROTEST

Those people who filed a civil claim form are presented with this final opportunity to participate in a lawsuit over WTO ‘99. If you did not file a civil claim form, it is now too late to do so.

The deadline is January 29, 2001. That is 60 days after the two year statute of limitations for many state tort claims. Our final amended complaint will be filed on that day. The more lead plaintiffs who sign up, the better we will take on the issues of unreasonable force.

To recap the some information relevant to the lawsuit:

The countless chemical-weapon grenades which the police indiscriminately launched at WTO protestors were superheated to 2400 degrees.

The police themselves were repeatedly warned of the extreme danger posed by these superheated canisters. The public received no warning, though the police were well aware of reports that the canisters burned off the fingers of individuals who touched them.

The chemical weapons used by the Seattle Police Department contained 60% methyl chloride. Methyl Chloride is a well-known carcinogen. It is proven to cause birth defects in laboratory animals, and is suspected of causing long-term harm to people with asthma, liver problems, or heart problems.

Police officers were aware of the long-term dangers posed by residual chemicals. They were informed that the microscopic structure of the chemical gases resembled miniature fishhooks. They were cautioned that any clothing which came in contact with these gases had to be washed several times before being rendered safe to wear again.

They were further warned that these substances would even contaminate the washing machines themselves, and that the machines had to be run through at least two complete cycles, empty, before the toxic substances would be diluted to an acceptable level.

The general public received no warnings at all.

One of the plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit spent over $5000.00 treating skin conditions caused from wearing contaminated and cross-contaminated clothing.

At the present time, it is uncertain how many innocent citizens suffer from chronic health problems as a result of continuous exposure to residual chemical agents which have contaminated their clothing, bedding, towels, and linens.

Also uncertain is the number of other injuries that were suffered at the Seattle WTO. We do know that hundreds of thousands of dollars of damages have been paid out already to individuals who have filed suit!

URGENT: If you were beaten, shot at with rubber bullets, pepper sprayed, or otherwise injured during the Seattle WTO demonstrations of 1999, please contact us immediately.

Such harms may include bruises, rashes, burns, heightened chemical sensitivities, respiratory difficulties, exposure to "tear gas", liver damage, chronic palpitations, etc.
