::NICOLE COUSINO's work explores issues of power, human agency and
representation. She just completed a documentary, "Concrete &
Sunshine", about California's burgeoning prison system and its impact
on individuals on both sides of the prison walls. The video also
calls attention to prisons as public works projects. In order to
provide a picture of life prior to the state's obsession with
incarceration she will be showing a Department of Transportation
film, "California? A State of Progress," which highlights
California's earlier, more productive forms of public works projects.
::ASHLEY HUNT is a Brooklyn based artist, his most recent work
centers around prisons and prison expansion, including a feature
documentary titled "Corrections," which centers around prison
privatization while examining the politics of prison expansion
throughout the United States. Hunt will present excerpts from his
documentary "Corrections," and will also show a new video titled
"Lockdowns Up" which addresses the response of the prison industry to
the events of 9-11 and the possibility of internment camps.
"Lockdowns Up" was recently featured as a part of the Call to Action
by Third World News Reel at Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
His work has been exhibited around the U.S. and internationally,
including the Los Angeles Center for Photographic Studies (LACPS),
the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Non-Violent Social Change, the
Terra Museum of Art in Chicago, the Bandits-Images Film and Video
Festival in Bourges, France, and the International Art Expo 2000 in
Germany. Hunt was recently a fellow at the Whitney Museum of American
Art in New York.

3. Walk about 20 feet down the alley (away from the street).
4. Stop.
5. Notice dumpster on your right hand side.
6. Take a right and continue down the alley.
7. Exercise caution so as not trip on the wobbly cement blocks underfoot
8. The entrance to C-Level is located 10 yards down on left side, behind
a red door, down a black staircase.

NOMADS+RESIDENTS_LA
While competing definitions of "the global" and "the local" are being
thrown about in a myriad current political and economic debates, Los
Angeles continues, like most major cities, to house a constantly
fluctuating mass of natives, migrants and visitors. Even with the much
heralded isolation of LA "car culture", these populations meet, exchange
information, and share knowledge. Recognizing this fluid process as a
resource, NOMADS+RESIDENTS_LA organizes public discussions between people
who live in Los Angeles and people who visit the city. Taking its form and
motivation from NOMADS + RESIDENTS in New York City, NOMADS+RESIDENTS_LA
creates a network among people interested in
contemporary/political/intellectual discussions in the context of cultural
production. NOMADS+RESIDENTS_LA is organized by a group of artists,
writers and curators. Event locations will circulate throughout the city.
ABOUT C_LEVEL
C-level is a co-operative lab formed to share physical, social and
technological resources. Members include artists, programmers, writers,
designers, agit-propers, filmmakers and reverse-engineers. Located in a
basement in Chinatown Los Angeles, C-level serves to host a variety of
events including screenings, performances, lectures, debates, and
