Pew Fellowships in International Journalism Offered to Journalists Interested in International Issues

Pew Fellowships in International Journalism Offered to Journalists Interested in International Issues

Deadlines: April 1 and October 1, annually

The Pew Fellowships in International Journalism are designed to increase the U.S. public's understanding of key international topics by helping to educate early- and mid-career U.S. journalists.

The four-month program provides participants with access to leading international experts in the United States, and offers them opportunities to do reporting projects overseas. Fellows receive a stipend to help cover expenses in both the U.S. and overseas phases of the program as well as other forms of support.

All U.S. journalists with at least three years of professional experience are eligible to apply. Fellows are not required to have foreign language skills or prior overseas experience, though both may be helpful. The program is open to journalists from newspapers, newsmagazines, wire services, radio, television, and online news organizations. Freelancers are also invited to apply. Journalists must be citizens of the United States or else be working as journalists in the U.S. as full-time employees of U.S.-based news organizations.

Priority will be given to project topics such as refugees and relief assistance, international humanitarian and human rights issues, environmental degradation, population and migration, economic development and global trade issues, health and human services, cultural change, ethnic and religious unrest, and the role of non-governmental and peacekeeping groups in international conflicts.

For complete information on applying and to obtain an application, see the program's Web site or contact the program's offices.
