present - a 59 minutes internet radio program

1.LABOR IN PAKISTAN TODAY - an interview with

MAQBOOL A. BABRI, Pakistani labour videographer

Pakistan has embarked on a new political re-alignment against the Islamic fundamentalists that many in the Pak government had earlier nurtured. And that is causing the government of Pakistan's military strongman Pervez Musharraf to turn to an unusual ally. It is courting the

PROGRESSIVE LABOUR MOVEMENTS in the country, a group that had earlier suffered considerable harassment at the hands of the authorities. We play an interview with MAQBOOL A. BABRI, Pakistani labour videographer where he describes the

conditions amongst the labour force and labour movements in Pakistan.

2.IMMIGRANT VICTIMS OF THE WTC DEMAND RIGHTS AND BENEFITS

On December 18th New York City unions and immigrant rights organizations came together in a press conference to renew their calls for justice for immigrant workers who lost jobs or loved ones in the disaster. The meeting was held at the headquarters of the building services workers union local 32b-j which itself lost 24 members who worked at the world trade center –one of whom was undocumented .Immigrants are being denied unemployment and other government benefits that US citizens receive in their time of need. They are afraid to visit their families abroad for fear of not being allowed to return. The tragedy of the world trade center has motivated an outpouring of compassion and solidarity for the victims’ families. Right now many of these families desperately need to see this compassion expressed thru an emergency measure that grants them citizenship or permanent residence so they can be together with their loved ones in the moment of pain and can receive their fair share of aid to the victims.
