December 10 is International Human Rights Day. In solidarity with the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan, a rally against repression in both Afghanistan and the U.S. will be held at the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles beginning at 4:00 P.M. until 6:00.

Since its beginning in 1977, the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan(RAWA) have been marching on International Human Rights Day(December 10) for the end of repression against women in that country and around the world. Now, it's our turn to show our support for RAWA and human rights in Afghanistan and here on International Human Rights Day this Monday. The rally will be held in front of the Federal Building in downtown Los Angeles(walking distance from Union Station for us Metrolink riders) at 4:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. Everyone is encouraged to come and support RAWA and International Human Rights Day, and oppose repression by the governments of both Afghanistan(the Northern Alliance which the U.S. supports, will be just as repressive, if not worse, than the Taliban was) and the U.S. with its recently imposed "Patriot Act", military tribunals for non-citizens and other patently fascist attacks on our rights.

RAWA is calling for public pressure on the U.N. to send a multi-national peace-keeping force to replace U.S. troops there and help establish a coalition government as a first step in the transition to a Democracy. E-mail the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights on the address provided here and urge the U.N. to do so.

For more information on the rally Monday, e-mail Anti-Racist Action at part2001@usa.net, or call 310-485-0289.

Some of the other organizations supporting this event are Acting in Solidarity with Afghan People, Women and Men in Black LA, Pitzer College Women's Center, Caltech Progressive Coalition, SOL Foundation, Aztlan Underground, People's Coalition Against War and others will be announced.
