If W.H. Auden were around today, Lynne Cheney's powerhouse brain police, the American Council of Trustees and Alumni, would have nailed him in a new report as part of the "BLAME AMERICA FIRST" for these lines from his poem "September 1, 1939":
I and the public know / What all schoolchildren learn:
Those to whom evil is done / Do evil in return.
"In order to save Western Civilization, it was necessary to destroy it."
