Superband Radiohead supports Video Activists

A donation by the World famous band, Radiohead has ensured that alternative viewpoints on Corporate Globalisation, and the Afghan war will be heard.

On December 8, a series of radical video documentaries will be screened in Britains only festival for the works of Video Activists. Beyond TV festival will premier the latest works of the international award winning alternative media groups.

Highlights will include-

Globalisation and the Media: an investigation into the role of the mass media during the ‘war on terrorism’ and the demonstrations surrounding various economic summits.

The War Within: looking at the current conflicts in the World through the eyes of various religious leaders from the Buddhists, Christian, and Muslim orders.

Non Violence for a Change: grandmothers who disarm nuclear submarines with hammers ask what does direct action mean amongst the latest wave of political activism?

Festival co-ordinator Helen Iles said;

“Beyond TV is an open challenge to the mainstream news agenda. We are displaying that there are many, many viewpoints being ignored. Undercurrents is offering solutions as well as a platform for rarely seen perspectives on solving environmental and social conflict.

The camcorder has ensured that the public can have a voice in the media. Combined with our unique Video Activist training and the Beyond TV festival, we can offer messages of hope and inspiration in times like these.”

Beyond TV will be launched in Swansea in December and then travels to Australia in 2002 before arriving back in Britain for a nation wide tour. The festival is also being supported by the “Sustainable Swansea” grant scheme. The works of local video-makers exploring organic farmers markets will also be screened.

Radiohead showed their support for Media charity, Undercurrents foundation, by donating £7500 from their only British gig earlier this year.
