Urgent news from the Taco Bell Boycott:
From Thursday, November 29, to Saturday, December 1, universities and
communities across the country will be participating in a campaign of
three days of action at Taco Bell restaurants. With protests already
planned from Gainesville, FL, to Irvine, CA, the national actions are
the next step in the Coalition of Immokalee Workers' (CIW) campaign
to convince the Taco Bell Corporation to recognize the farmworkers
who pick their tomatoes and help improve the wages and working
conditions in Florida's tomato fields.
The Student/Farmworker Alliance (email: sfw_alliance@hotmail.com) is
spearheading the National Days of Action campaign. The specific
actions planned for 11/29-12/1 vary according to the community and
the history of the boycott in each area, but groups are organizing
everything from simple flyering/picketing to continuous three-day
protests with teams participating in shifts throughout the business
hours of their local Taco Bell restaurant and creative actions
building up to a larger protest and rally on Dec. 1.
If you are interested in bringing the Taco Bell Boycott National Days
of Action to your school or community, contact the Student/Farmworker
Alliance or the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (coaimmwkr@aol.com)
for more information and materials that you can use for organizing in
your area. Thanks, CIW
