And it's a lot of...

by Mulberry Sellers Friday, Oct. 12, 2001 at 3:12 AM

Simple assertions, without a scrap of external support offered.

It's somewhat technically plausible, but the article very carefully steers clear of providing any evidence or any details which could be checked independently.

There would surely be a way of checking- avionics systems require regular testing and maintenance, and a remote control system like the one described wouldn't be considered reliable unless it were tested regularly. In addition, a system which worked like the one described would require connections from the flight control systems to the communications and radar systems- connections which, if they were not detailed in the system documentation would arouse a lot of curiosity on the part of the technicians working on the hardware.

However, instead of even the tenuous confirmation of reports of mysterious test protocols or unexplained interconnections, all we're given is unsupported assertion.

This is pretty typical of conspiracy-buff writing. The evidentiary standard is exactly congruent with what one expects from a government press release- "because I say so".

All this amounts to is a new, improved "official story", which the reader is expected to accept on faith- or on the manipulation of his putative prejudices by the writer.
