March Begins 11am at Olympic and Broadway, Downtown Los Angeles, and ending at Temple (between Los Angeles and Alameda) Parking and Transportation Info THE SEPTEMBER 29th LOS ANGELES JUSTICE MOBILIZATION --------A "Call" to the movement to come together and mobilize!------------- -------International Day of Action!------- +++Justice for our Hemisphere..Justice for our Communities+++ NEXT MEETING OF THE MOBILIZATION COALITION MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17TH, 7:00 p.m. at CARECEN CARECEN is the Central American Resource Center, 7th 2845 West 7th Street (near Hoover & 7th) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Wake of attacks in New York and Washington, DC. We want to express the sympathy to those who died. There's no question that these events will have an impact on LA S29 Mobilization and LA/Irvine Taco Bell Actions, we will discuess the details at Monday night S29 meeting. Also, we should very careful not to jump into the conclusion who behind these brutal attacks, and vow to "revenge." Currently, there's a very high anti-Arab hysteria across the country, many Muslim community leaders had received countless death threats since September 11. Yes, we need to condemn the violence against innocent civilian, but we also need to against any US war, bombings against anyone in the name of the "revenge"! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Join us to develop the political projection of the mobilization! Participate in the Work Groups: scenario, program, outreach, security, media/press, art/puppets, logistics, permits & more. Begin the process of building a diverse, multi-racial, multi-ethnic,strong voice to confront corporate globalization and intervention throughout the hemisphere...and defend immigrants and workers both here at home & throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The CALL JUSTICE FOR LATIN AMERICA, THE CARIBBEAN, THE AMERICAS! JUSTICE FOR WORKERS AND IMMIGRANTS IN OUR COMMUNITIES AND THROUGHOUT THE HEMISPHERE! NO TO MILITARY, ECONOMIC & ELECTORAL INTERVENTIONS IN OUR HEMISPHERE! * Stop the impoverishment of Latin America & the Caribbean! NO TO THE FTAA (Free Trade Areas for the Americas)! * U.S. Out of Latin America! NO TO PLAN COLOMBIA! * Stop the attacks, here at home and throughout the hemisphere, on People of Color, Women, Immigrants, Workers, the Poor and Youth, gays and lesbians, bi-sexuals and transgenders ! * FULL LEGALIZATION FULL RIGHTS FOR IMMIGRANTS! ============================================================================ The progressive movement is called to reflect its solidarity with the people of Latin America and the Caribbean and the workers and the poor here at home and throughout the hemisphere by becoming part of the September 29 Justice Coalition to halt the insidious domination of the Americas by corporate transnationals and the U.S. military. Join tens of thousands of women, indigenous people, immigrants, youth and people of color taking part in an international day of action against the FTAA and Plan Colombia. Protests in Washington, D.C., Seattle, San Salvador and other cities will give this a truly international impact. The gigantic Latina/o population of Los Angeles, marching with African-Americans, Native Americans, the Asian community and contingents from many other communities of the Southland, will send a strong message to Washington, D.C. and around the world. Our coalition will begin immediately to build strong contingents from labor, the gay & lesbian bi-sexuals & transgenders community, faith-based activists, environmentalists, the solidarity movement, the youth/student movements, the immigrant community include and others. Why a march and rally in September? ***Corporations and the elites in the United States and Latin America want to expand their pro-corporate, anti-worker economic agenda by passing the FTAA (Free Trade Areas for the Americas) which spreads NAFTA (North American Free Trade Agreement) from the arctic circle to the tip of South America. NAFTA increased poverty enormously...we don't want the FTAA. We say NO TO THE FTAA! *** The enormous military aid to Colombia--in the billions of dollars--has increased massacres and other human rights violations. Under the guise of a "war on drugs," we have seen an escalating "war on the poor," financed by the U.S. We say NO TO PLAN COLOMBIA! *** Immigrants and refugees, often in the U.S. as a result of this country's military interventions and economic policies, enrich our cultural, educational and community life. They are building the economy of this country! They face exploitation & forms of repression daily. FULL LEGALIZATION, FULL RIGHTS FOR IMMIGRANTS! ***Democracy and justice in Latin America and the Caribbean is threatened by U.S. interference and intervention in the hemisphere. No U.S. military interventions, blockades, U.S. bases or economic exploitation in the hemisphere...no interventions in the elections in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Brazil and throughout the Americas. ***While the focus of the mobilization will be on four issues (FTAA, PLAN COLOMBIA, IMMIGRANTS' RIGHTS and DEMOCRACY & JUSTICE IN THE AMERICAS, there are many issues which will be addressed by marching contingents, banners, picket signs, speakers, press releases, puppets, and other forms of popular communication....just to mention a few of those: ---U.S. bases out of Vieques and Latin America! ---Stop the devastation of the environment! ---Wages For All Work! Living Wages For All Work! ---Stop The Police and Court Attack On Our Youth! ---Boycott Taco Bell--Support the tomato pickers of Florida! ---Free Lori! Free Mumia! Free All Political Prisoners! ---Stop the Deadly Agricultural Fumigation In Colombia! ---No U.S. Intervention In the Nicaraguan elections of 2001! ---End The Blockade of Cuba! ---Full Rights and Respect for the Indigenous of Colombia, Mexico and the Americas! ---Close The School of the Americas! (now called WHISC) ---NO to the WTO, Fast Track, the International Monetary Fund & World Bank ---Universal Health Care for all! and dozens more! -----------and speakers can incorporate these issues into their statements! A written "Call," in leaflet form, will be issued soon with more detailed analysis.
