Hi all, after the Genoa reportback Sunday 2-5 pm at 848 Divisadero,San Francisco, we will do a short ritual for those still imprisoned. Please join us in body or spirit. Below is also some practical stuff we can do, love Starhawk

Subject: [RWTO] Bay Area man with Publix Theatre still in jail in Italy - please help

hello! i'm sending this out because Andy is a friend of mine. He was living in Berkeley in the Spring, and is now facing serious charges in Genoa.

Andy was on the publixtheatre/ NO borders, NO nations caravan that was stopped by police leaving genoa to continue its tour. everyone was beaten, some badly. they are still in jail, and facing serious charges, including membership in a criminal organization and rioting/destruction. they are basically being scapegoated and made to seem like they are the leaders of the black bloc. they are actually a theatre group, and have been touring europe going to no border camps. The police are using their theatre props and a few black t-shirs as evidence. The group included people from Austria, the U.S., Slovakia, Germany, Australia and Sweden. There were 25 people arrested total.

they may have to stay up to 6 months(!) in jail even before a trial. their next court hearing is august 13, where the judge will decide whether they will be released or not.

this is seriously fucked. it could have been anyone of us had we gone to genoa. and he's a friend.

since the court date is coming up on 8/13, PLEASE

write/fax/email and/or call the italian court, the american

embassy in milan, and the italian consulate here (sf or wherever you are) asking for the release of the publix theatre caravan.

(please note: andy does not want his name used in the

mainstream media for anyone doing media work.)

finally, right now andy is ok, well, considering he's in jail. a friend of ours got to visit him the other day. he was hurt and arrested and beaten and then let go during the protests, then arrested again w/ the theatre caravan as they were leaving italy. at least right now he's in a jail w/o too much abuse and his wounds are healing. but he faces a long time in jail if we let the italian gov't get away w/ their scapegoating.

anyway, any help you can give is appreciated.

in solidarity,

monicat
