Ppress conference to announce the filing of a lawsuit condemning police repression and suppression of dissent at protests. The lawsuit is filed on behalf of the LA October 22nd Coalition to Stop Police Brutality, the LA Mumia Coalition, the D2K network (DNC) and the National Lawyers Guild.

The October 22nd Coalition is proud to be part of condemning the increased repression at political protests in the last period, including at last year's National Day of Protest to Stop Police Brutality where police viciously attacked and tried to stop the protest. We stood our ground and prevented their attempts to disperse the demonstration. We were not alone. In recent years, resisting the status quo and voicing opposition to the establishment has meant braving hundreds of police in riot gear, military style vehicles, brutality, harassment, arrests and political spying. The police and authorities try to rationalize their brutality and police state atmosphere by calling protesters "rebels without a cause" or "trouble makers" out to provoke a response. The real deal is that being young and not wanting to go along with the status quo is increasingly being treated as a crime by the powers that be. Brutalizing and suppressing those who engage in dissent and treating youth and others like criminals because they dare lift their heads and demand a better world is intolerable and must be fought against. The October 22nd Coalition strongly supports those trying to fight for a better future. The cop's brutality and police state repression is wrong. Our movement is just. We have right on OUR side.
