Castro Leads Cuba's Biggest Anti-U.S. March

by Reuters Saturday, Jul. 28, 2001 at 11:48 AM

Cuban President Fidel Castro is accompanied by Hajj Seyed Hassan Khomeini, the grandson of the late Ayatollah Khomeini of Iran, as he leads more than 1.2 million Cubans in the largest anti-U.S. protest in four decades of hostilities, July 26, 2001. The march was billed by the ruling Communist Party as a protest against all U.S. "aggressions and crimes'' since Castro's 1959 revolution. Khomeini is in Cuba as part of an Iranian delegation visiting on Castro's invite. (Rafael Perez/Reuters)

Khoemini No Friend of the Workingclass

by Justice Sunday, Jul. 29, 2001 at 11:22 AM

This is horrifying to see Fidel with a member of the fascist, clerical, capitalist ruling class of Iran. This says to the workingclass and revolutionaries of Iran which oppose the Khomenini regime that Cuba is aligned with one of the most backward, reactionary servants of imperialism in the world. Khomeini uses anti-American rhetoric to maintain support but there is no socialism in Iran. It is a bloodthirsty, religious, capitalist dictatorship. Khomeini's clerical garb is a symbol of his despicable government and class. The Cuban revolution can only be sustained with the support of other revolutionary forces around the world and by the international workingclass.

May be True, But consider this...

by brownoneyque Sunday, Jul. 29, 2001 at 4:18 PM

true, the khomeni name is tinged with an awful, authoritarian, theocratic

regime, but they are still enemies of the U.S.--Castro's posture is

obviously more strategic than concrete. Some good sober sentiments,

but let's not let our overt romanticism of the working-class overshadow

the fact that many revolutionary movements in Iran are also U.S.-backed.

would you prefer Bush's backdoor buddy, Saddam?
