Little Rock, Ark. -- James Howard Hatfield, whose biography of U.S. President George W. Bush won national attention before its publisher withdrew it over the author's criminal past, died in a motel in what police called a suicide yesterday. Police said Mr. Hatfield, 43, died of an apparent drug overdose. His body was found on Wednesday in a motel in Springdale, about 320 kilometres northwest of Little Rock. Mr. Hatfield wrote the unauthorized biography, Fortunate Son: George W. Bush and the Making of an American President. AP
SOMEBODY PUBLISH THE DAMN BOOK!!!! We need an Independent Book Publisher!!!!
The book, *Fortunate Son*, HAS been published--by Soft Skull Press.
Also we have PLENTY of independent publishers, including everyone from the likes of South End Press to old-liners like Beacon Press to a wide range of university presses that publish many of the sorts of books that the major publishers used to publish before they were bought up by conglomerates. Book publishing remains the most decentralized and wide-open aspect of the media world outside of the internet. The problem is not publishing, but publicity and distribution.
