50+ people attended the meeting in support of the Long Beach May Day demonstrators, many of whom were arrested. Contact information for support is included. A march and vigil on July 24th is scheduled.
There were around 50+ people attend the meeting, include May Day Long Beach
arrestees, ACLU, Long Beach Peace Action Network, Independent Media Center
and many local concern activists.
Most Long Beach activists who attend the meetings are relative old and very
experienced activists and they were outraged by what city of Long Beach, Long
Beach Police Department, local media and Long Beach City council had been
attacking the youth activists who march on May Day.
We had a long discuses including legal strategy, local supports and
ideological debate. One hand the May Day arrestees were happy that THERE ARE
GROUP OF LONG BEACH ACTIVISTS willing to supports them; however, on the other
hand, the youth activists also raised their concern on power dynamics and
lecturing too much from some of the old activists.
The meeting decided to call for a march and vigil on Tuesday, July 24th on
Long Beach to support the on going court case (location: TBA), establish work
groups to support the campaign and issue a joint statement to support May Day
arrestees.
