THE YOUTH ARE THE FUTURE! WE DEMAND A BETTER WORLD!

YOUTH COME TOGETHER!

This August fourteenth will be the first anniversary of the Monday attack

of the youth at the Democratic National Convention. Last year, following

an exhilarating performance by Rage Against the Machine and an abruptly

interrupted show by Ozomatli, the police ambushed the young protesters

firing rubber bullets and spraying pepper spray. THE CROWD THEN TOOK TO

THE STREETS IN PEACEFUL DEFIANCE!

Two days later, "THE YOUTH ARE OUR FUTURE: WE DEMAND A BETTER WORLD"

coalition organized a march during which the police separated the crowds

of demonstrators on their way to the Staples Center to intimidate them and

silence their honesty. Upon finally getting to Staples, the youth refused

to enter the "designated protest area", a chain-link cage! A few people

were trapped in that fenced area but many more TOOK THE INTERSECTION

boldly declaring that we would not enter that cage and be brutalized

again! In a great display of unity, the demonstrators marched back to

Pershing Square (where the beginning rallies were held every day of the

DNC) against police orders.

AUGUST 14, 2001 will be a chance for the youth to reunite against all

injustices and have their voices heard once more. We plan to have the

FIRST ANNUAL YOUTH MARCH AND RALLY to celebrate the courageous resistors,

and commemorate the BLATANT ATTACK ON THE YOUTH.

As the youth, we play an integral role in this battle to end injustice.

This march and rally will be a unique chance for the youth to TAKE BACK

THE STREETS and show the wth to reunite against all injustices and have

their voices heard once more. We plan to have the FIRST ANNUAL YOUTH MARCH

AND RALLY to celebrate the courageous resistors, and commemorate the

BLATANT ATTACK ON THE YOUTH. At this rally, we will hear from speakers who

will discuss the role of the youth in this global struggle. Also,

musicians, poets, and many other types of artists will display their arts

to show the power and unity of the youth.

As the youth, we play an integral role in this battle to end injustice.

This march and rally will be a unique chance for the youth to TAKE BACK

THE STREETS and show the world that we will continue to fight for change

AND WILL NOT BE SCARED AWAY BY GOVERNMENTAL BULLYING. We will unite on

such topics as:

* fighting to stop police brutality

* the repression and criminalization of our generation

* proclaiming we want SCHOOLS, NOT JAILS!

* fighting for immigrant rights by protesting sweatshops and La Migra

brutality * fighting for the freedom of Mumia Abu-Jamal, and ALL other

political prisoners * And more . . .
