Despite the rising furor over genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in our food system, it is still very difficult to find an explanation of the processes without falling prey to head-splitting techno-babble. It is also difficult to access the many scientific studies that have raised alarm over the possible health and environmental repercussions of this new technology.

Rachel Massey, a consultant for the Environmental Research Foundation, has distilled a large quantity of information and made it accessible to the non-geneticist in this three-part series.

If you have questions about what you're eating, read "Biotech: The Basics."

Part 1 describes the processes used to create GMOs and their potential impact on human health.

Part 2 explains the unique genetic characteristics of GMOs and the increased danger of genetic pollution.

Part 3 describes the affects of GMO plants on the ecosystem
