Ind. Building Protesters Arrested
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) -- Police moved in Friday and forcibly removed protesters who had camped out in trees to halt construction of an apartment complex.
At least three people were arrested on charges of trespassing and resisting arrest, Monroe County Sheriff Steve Sharp said.
The sit-in started in March to protest the planned sale of a 50-acre wooded lot for an apartment complex on the city's east side.
About five of the demonstrators were stationed in the trees at the time sheriff's deputies moved in about 6 a.m. Several dozen other demonstrators were believed to be at the site.
