One of the corporate world’s pet public relations techniques is too find a person who fits the profile of those victimized by corporate activity who is willing to speak on behalf of her or his people in order to say that corporations really are helping them, and that the rest of the victims don’t understand the benefits of corporate power. Today at 3:00pm BIO2001 held a press conference for Dr. Florence M. Wambugu, of Nairobi Kenya who spoke about her belief that biotechnology is great for Africa. (See her website is “modifyingafrica.com”.) She was introduced by a stereotypical white man in suit, who began by saying “Almost everyone who knows Africa, loves Africa”. Yes, I am quite sure that the colonialists and slave traders just loved it to death.
