This report makes me question IMC´s objectivity seriously.
The report includes a few propaganda-like write-ups of the Gothenburg-summit, feeding on the hatred of the violence- and RAF-loving extreme leftists.
I have my doubts about globalization. I see the environment as one of the most important issues for our generation. I spend a lot of time thinking how to help people from poverty. But I am a strong believer in democracy and against all violence to get political gains.
I was in Gothenburg. And I saw enormous amount of people manifesting their political beliefs together. This was great. But then came the violence - and the violence was not started by the police. It was AFA, Basta etc that started it. Because they wanted it!! And afterwards they have the guts to release press-releases about their innocense. The police most certainly did several things wrong, but this does not change the facts around who started the confrontations (I saw stones and bats at Whitfeldska long before any police was there - so who started that confrontation - the police that saw all the stones and the bats, or the people that piled all weapons up?).
I do not want to be associated with "use violence to get somewhere" people. Because I do believe violence is the beginning of a fascistic system (even if your flag is red). And when IMC continues to feed from the violence lover´s propaganda, I seriously question the objectivity of IMC.

Indymedia is not objective. It is subjective from many perspectives. The more perspectives the better we can each figure out what we each believe true. Your perspective is appriciated too. "Open publishing assumes the reader is informed and creative, and may choose to participate as a writer, editor or distributor. Open publishing assumes that a reader can decipher the quality of a story." Indymedia is not the synthesis editor just the facilitator. so keep those subjective perspectives coming. -g

Jakob: You need to understand the big picture. The rioters understand that the people needs more police and military force, and more government.
The rioters are valiant soldiers fighting the same glorious battle that we fought back in the thirties to lay the foundations for the Third Reich. These young men have understood our strategy perfectly: Get the activists more and more used to violence, and get the people to accept more and more police and military.
Just look at the Swedes! Now the Swedes demand more policemen and gladly accept police brutality. They even have some debates about letting the military guard demonstrations. Before Gothemburg the Swedes would whine if a policeman so much as touched a demonstrator. Overnight they have turned into worthy Aryans.
These young soldiers are copying our old strategy quite effectively, even targeting the same groups. Of course they can't use the Jews today, but back then the Jews were bankers and big industrialists, and these modern-day valiant soldiers are targeting banks and big corporations -- practically the same targets. Of course all you need is any group that a large group of violent activists can hate.
If they keep copying our old strategy, in due time they'll get more used to the violence and will start targeting more and more companies, until they'll attack any little store that sells Coca-Cola. Of course the people will want defense from this and will accept more and more police and military force, until the streets are full of uniforms.
I must commend these valiant young soldiers on their efficacy.
Jakob, these young men need some help in better understanding their own strategies and their own battle. Please join in. Just write suitable comments in suitable places on IMC. If more people help they may understand better.
They must understand that they are fighting for me!

What did you exactly see at Hvitfeldtska? I'd like to know, because the police didn't find any weaponry there. Their "metal containers with small stones in them" were musical instruments for the samba group, the sticks they found had been used by the white overalls (Ya Basta) in their training to imitate the police etc. I can't find the list of things the police confiscated, what was exactly there?
In my opinion, what the police did on thursday at Hvitfeldtska was a planned operation to prevent any organised non-violent civil disobedience next morning. What they then did on friday morning was a planned attack to provoke a riot to justify their unjustifiable methods. I don't know what they were thinking on friday evening during the Reclaim the City but I guess they just had to provoke a bit more clashes.
In my opinion it is completely justified for people to protect themselves from the police, but it doesn't make sense when it can be used in the way it was used by the corporate media. Of course there were people who were prepared for violence but I don't think that anything like what happened would've happened if the police wouldn't have attacked people all the time, everywhere.
Fighting with the police is stupid and if we start using violence, we've already lost 'cause then we're playing their game and in their game, they set up the rules. Violence is never constructive and can never be used as a method to achieve anything non-violent, but there are situations where there are not too many options and I don't think that I am in a position to judge people who defend themselves when the police attacks at them with horses, dogs and batons.

This guy who calls himself Hitler, I don't think he's a Nazi, I think he's some anti-Nazi trying to warn about Nazism.
He says that throwing stones creates the same atmosphere that the Nazis created in the thirties, the hate and fear and acceptance of police and military and uniforms. He says the stone throwers are paving the way for some new Fascism or Nazism or something.
Read what he says. It's disgusting.
If that's what you're saying, "Adolf", say it clearly. The masquerade isn't funny. It's disgusting.

As the unrest is temporarily, evidently subsiding in Gothenburg, the site of the recent EU-summit and the most recent celebration of capitalism, tyranny and destruction, one is once again struck by how easily most people are fooled. How most people are uncritically buying the government, the establishment's propaganda. Machinery desperately kicking into overdrive. George W. Bush (a visiting guest warmly welcomed by his EU partners), enjoying the company of friends on his Europe trip, also dropped by. A number of diverse, disparate groups and individuals arrived in Gothenburg on June 14th to protest against the successful attempts by the establishment to turn the world into a market place, where Life, human and otherwise is turned into just another commodity, a world where money is all and Life nothing. There were "non-violent" protesters, claiming we can "all get along", claiming that one can end tyranny by appeasing it. And luckily there were those who believe in confrontation, who are convinced that tyranny must be confronted on all levels, also by using some of the same methods the tyranny is deploying. The fourth, supporting estate was deployed in its usual fashion well in advance. Violent conspiracies, people with grenade launchers, guns in schools and more were "exposed". Rumors were abundant. Was there ever a grenade launcher in that apartment, were there ever guns at that school? The propaganda machinery is so slick, so skilled that we may never know the truth. Yes, the lies or the Machine have been successful for a long time and that makes its bolder. There are talks about imposing a series of new, restricting laws. I have lost count of many times I have heard the word "raffle" and similar describing the protesters. News reports are designed to give the general public the worst possible impression of the protesters. And the general public is, as usual eating it up. I wonder (and I'm gonna ask them) if the news reporters are proud of being the tyrants' uncritical spokesmen. The protests started on the 14th. The police surrounded a school, claiming weapons were hidden there. No weapons were found, but they kept surrounding the school in an effort to keep the protesters contained there, to keep them from protesting. It didn't work. People finally fed up with establishment brutality and control, broke out. A few hours later the battle of Gothenburg had begun in earnest. We've seen it all many times. It was sticks and stones against a police force protected by helmets, shields and everything modern armaments can offer. Friday night protesters were shot by the police. The police claimed that they defended themselves. Against who? Against people with sticks and stones, that's who, fighting against a uniformed force with superior numbers and armament. The number of protesters has fortunately grown steadily the last few years, but the police still has the upper hand by far. But the policemen and security forces may have feared that things were a bit more even this time around and panicked. They are being hailed as heroes, of course. Brave men and women fighting against the tide of anarchy and chaos… In the meantime a human being may die because he exercised his right to protest against injustice. A policeman shot him in the chest, claiming self-defense. Another was hit in the leg. A Swedish photograph present at the scene, working for the major newspaper Aftonbladet, says: "the bullets were flying all over the place, any one of us could have been hit". Several policemen were firing completely indiscriminately. Saturday night 800 people were contained on Jerntorget. Once again the police were claiming to look for guns. A German with a gun, to be precise. No German (or gun) was ever procured. Monday they had expanded the lone German invention to a host of "violent armed German terrorists". And the clueless general population is buying the establishment propaganda hook, line and sinker. Even highly intelligent people I've spoken to are uttering automatic responses like: "the mob is at it again", "these people are traveling around just to make trouble", "why can't they protest peacefully like any normal person?", "why are they protesting?" and such. Intelligence is certainly no insurance against being brainwashed. One most use intelligence wisely and actively, or it's useless. Very few are asking why people are protesting, why anyone feel the need to subject themselves to systematic brutality by tyranny's eager servants. In a world where destroying Life, both physically and mentally has become a virtue, very few are even attempting to see the big picture, how the acts of our current "leaders" are turning a bad situation worse, how the system itself is engineered to propagate and enhance, to worsen the current situation, not improving it. Most of us are content passively repeating the words and actions of others, of supporting and reinforcing the power structures any way we can. There is very little independent thinking… and that's why the propaganda machine is so successful. The mindless can always be counted on to be used against those few rebelling against tyranny and injustice.
