Strange Vegetables are showing up around San Diego. For the last few Thursdays they have been seen at Trader Joe's in Hillcrest and Pacific Beach. Where did they come from? What are they doing? Does anyone have pictures?

For the last few weeks vegetables in San Diego have been labeled with stickers indicating that the foods may be genetically modified. The labeling is being done by a group of mutant vegetables that apparently got loose from one of San Diego's Biotech companies. The mutant vegetables are five to seven feet tall. One of the huge tomatoes even had a flounder tail! A soybean and giant corn were talking with customers as well. Equally confusing though, some of the vegetables were hard to distinguish from their non-genetically engineered vegetable friends.

This brigade of roaming vegetables said they hope to raise awareness among Trader Joe's shoppers. In Pacific Beach the store management was not happy with these large vegetables and escorted them to the street. They were told not to come back in or they would be arrested. One of the labelers, dressed as Mother Earth, said this was too bad because she had planned to come back after passing out flyers and buy some non-genetically engineered (GE) foods. She said that she wants Trader Joe's to know that her group supports a lot of what they do, but they want Trader Joe's to change their policy on GE foods.
