MORE ABOUT THE PROTEST

by a green Friday, May. 25, 2001 at 5:20 PM

The San Diego Protest Against Bush's Energy Policy and FOR RATE CAPS:

Date: Tuesday, May 29th

Time: most likely 9am (not confirmed)

Meeting Place: Front entrance of Camp Pendleton (follow signs off of 5)

Media Contact: NA yet

Join Global Exchange and a coalition of groups for clean, affordable, energy for a spirited protest as George Bush visits Camp Pendleton.

The goal is to make this a big protest. We will demand that Bush ask the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to implement wholesale energy price caps immediately!! For more info: www.powertothepeople.org

Help make this protest! Show up, bring signs and props, wear costumes etc...

Ideas for the protest include:

*The "Ratebusters" (last week members of Global Exchange dressed as "Ratebusters", a la the 1980's movie Ghostbusters, and received great press at the PUC meeting in San Francisco) We can sing revised verses to the "Ghostbustes" theme song.

*It would be great to find a few people who could be on stilts, dressed as electric transmitter towers wearing "energy rate caps" caps.

*People wearing pig masks with the names of the energy generators and GWBush masks.

* We would like people to bring lots of caps with "Ratebusters - Rate Caps" written on them. We're also looking for more great ideas.

We are coordinating actions at Camp Pendleton, in Los Angeles, and in Fresno- everywhere Bush will be making stops on his California visit.
