Please join us in demonstrating our "Loss of Confidence" in the San Diego Unified School District Administration. The board's pattern of poor decision-making is costly and jeopardizing our children's education and safety. Do we really want education blackouts as well?

What: The decision to intimidate and remove experienced and competent administrators, replacing them with hastily trained, inexperienced people shows bad judgment.

Tony Alfaro, principal removed from San Diego High is only one of several on the district's "hit list"

Not having a curriculum aligned with state standards and high school exit exam requirements shows bad judgment. How will our children receive a legitimate diploma?

The decisions to hire a superintendent with no educational background,

New York's elementary school superintendent as chancellor of instruction, and

a history major to design the science program shows bad judgment.

The current move to disband the school security program (even after recent local shootings) show's bad judgment

Why: After a few years in office, the current superintendent and the majority of the board are showing a definite pattern of poor judgment, management by intimidation, unethical and deceptive relationships with staff, parents and general community. We have lost confidence in this administration and the board majority.

Who: Parents, Alliance for Quality Education, Members of the PTA's and PTSA's, members of San Diego City Schools Advisory Boards, members of the San Diego Alumni Association and members of the San Diego High School Foundation, DURO (Developing Unity through Resident Organizing), EJE (Excelencia y Justicia en Educacion), AEJ (Alianza for Equity and Justice), and other organizations.

When: Tuesday, May 22, 2001

3:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.

San Diego Unified School District Building

4100 Normal Street, San Diego

By the way, the District's own recent reports say

There is a "concern about genuine two-way communication when the district requests parent input." Superintendent-Parent Dialogue, Feb 21, 2001, SDUSD Website.

We definitely agree!!!!!!
