COUP WATCH: Cuba Offers To Send Election Observers If Revote Is Ordered

The Associated Press reports “Cuba's foreign minister said a new election in Florida would be a ‘reasonable’ way to resolve the disputed vote for U.S. president and offered to send observers to ensure fair balloting.”

The offer was made by Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque, who was in New York on Thursday for a U.N. visit. Roque made a number of ironic obervations which the AP passed along virtually without comment--perhaps because he was starting to sound like Jay Leno. Or visa-versa.

AP also reported that Roque was in New York “for the annual vote in the U.N. General Assembly criticizing the U.S. embargo and calling for it to be lifted as soon as possible.” AP also noted that “The nonbinding resolution passed with 167 votes in favor -- the highest margin in the nine years Cuba has brought the initiative to the United Nations.” Also mentioned was that Israel and the Marshall Islands joined the US in voting against the resolution, while four countries abstained.

Lopsided U.N. votes against US positions are routinely ignored in the US corporate media. But maybe Bill Mahr will notice this one.
