On the fence

by Tom Gorman Friday, Sep. 08, 2000 at 2:27 AM

@8:00 p.m., August 14, 2000. After being shot directly in the face with pepper spray, these two men climbed atop the fence. When the man on the right stood, the police on the other side of the fence cautioned that he should "get down before he falls and hurts himself." Their humanitarian concern was overwhelming.

This is an inspiring, powerfull photo. These two kids were fearless. The kid in the white shirt had to wear duct tape and foam shoes after this because his shoes were fully soaked in pepper spray. In fact both of 'em were mad drenched in the shit. They took round after round of plastic cop shot. All to rase the black flag of the people. We must all become like this, unafrade to climb the fences that are all around us. Ready, not to merly question authority but to rise up against it. Fight On my friends...

two men on fence

This young man I know was charged with a felony assault on a police officer and two misdemeanors for supposedly rioting. He had his hand broken, and was shot in the chest by the rubber bullets, but was denied medical treatment for days. He is innocent, a victim of profiling b/c the cops were targetting latinos.

That is me holding the flag! I just wanted to say to all the people who see this that even though it was a black flag that i stand for peace. I hope that those of you who were there wont forget me or what i had to say. I truly believe that was the best thing i ever done in my whole life, also the most painful. I also hope that one day all mankind can truly embrace each other as brothers and sisters and establish an international constitution securing the rights of all who inhabit this beutiful planet. Lets keep "The Dream" alive and wwhenever there is any kind of injustice make it your duty to get up and stand up because we cant give up the fight.
