Well I've been working like crazy to get this flyer ready for Tuesday. I've recived a few inquires about it so I'm glad I'm not the only one going out there.
I'm not done yet but almost there. However, I wanted to get some comments on what is the most editoral piece (Ya know we should be a little easier on the mainstream, writing propagand into news copy is not an easy task.) It has alot of "we"s in it so I wanted to hear from anyone who cared to read it if they object to anything.
Also on the flyer will be an article on the Philly detainees. A Minn. story because this got no press what so ever. And a general article titled: "Fed, Media Silence O.K
I come from a family that has witnessed repression first hand. My father was a victim of the McCarthy era witchhunts of the 50's. Knowing that the Democratic Convention was coming to Los Angeles I wanted to be involved, if only in a small way, in lending my support to groups protesting the policies of the Democrats. The combination of Mayor Riordans editorial in the times warning people about the "Anarchists" coming to L.A. and the media reports about potential violence had a chilling effect on me and my wife. We finally however went to the convergence center in L.A. to help in any way we could. We washed dishes and helped paint banners. It gave me hope to see so many activists coming together for a common purpose. The surveilance of the convergence center by the police and the initial police attempts to relegate protestors to "the protest pit" away from the convention center indicates to me that the police are more interested in curbing free speech than protecting it. I appreciate the IMC being here for someone like myself to give my perspective.
