The theme of Monday's protest (8/13/2000), was "Human Need not Corporate Greed." An enormous crowd gathered at Pershing Square for a march to Staples Center. No fewer than 10,000 protestors participated in the mass demonstration, and many issues were addressed.

I photographed this enormous puppet as it was carried down the broad avenues of L.A.'s downtown streets. The puppet's arms were stretched out wide, touching each side of the street. I could barely fit the entire puppet into my camera's view finder! Written on the puppet's arms was the message; "SHAM ELECTIONS. Pre-selected, Interchangeable, Corporate Puppets. Democratic Republican Spectacle, Public Relations for Corporate Rule." The mustache and smile on the puppet's face read; "FAKE DEMOCRACY."
