The themes of Wednesday's protests (8/16/2000), were the issues of Police Brutality, the Death Penalty, Political Prisoners, and mass incarceration. The largest protest was held at the Staples Center, where some 4,000 people faced off with the LAPD Riot Squad. I took this photograph of a young protestor who had been shot with a Police rubber bullet the previous Monday. The fellow had turned his body into protest art by writing a message on his stomach next to the rubber bullet bruise.
