As you know we have the pleasure of hosting the Democratic National Convention from August 14th to the 17th. Because this is a high profile political event, we are anticipating hundreds, if not thousands, of filthy political agitators. These are people with nothing better to do with their lives than to "fight for the rights of the underprivileged". What an absurd idea! There are no underprivileged here in our beautiful city or any where else on god’s green earth. None the less, these people are hell bent on expressing their beliefs through means both fair and foul. Amongst these political agitators are a small group of mainly middle class white kids looking to satiate their apetite for macho behavior, they are the Anarchists.
As you may or may not know I own several properties within the vicinity of the Staples Center. They are The Pantry at 877 S. Figueroa and Original Pantry Bakery & Sandwich Shop at 875 Figueroa St. It is of the utmost importance that nothing happen to these historic landmarks while the convention is in town. The Anarchists will be looking to smash the windows or otherwise vandalize property which they deem "Capitalist", and it is my hope that they can see the contribution given to our community by my fine establishments and will not even think of vandalizing my property. If they do wish to vandalize property, rest assured that the honorable LAPD will take quick action in repressing their actions and keep them away from the Financial District and instead herd them toward South Broadway where they can vandalize the poor wetback’s stalls and outlets. I repeat, they will not be driven up Figueroa or Flower St. where they may vandalize upstanding businesses like Macy's and Starbucks.
Remember, I own both The Pantry at 877 S. Figueroa and Original Pantry Bakery & Sandwich Shop at 875 Figueroa St. they are both located within walking distance from the Staples Center. It is of the utmost importance that all Angelenos take part in the preservation and unending accumulation of my wealth and keep these properties from harm.
Sincerely, Richard Riordan Mayor of Los Angeles and owner of both The Pantry
877 S. Figueroa and
Original Pantry Bakery & Sandwich Shop
875 Figueroa St.
It was posted to at least one (likely others) anarchist related mailing list. The person who posted it seemed to have disappeared after the post.
It is possible those buildings are actually independently owned or just traps in general.
Considering the mass dissemination of this information, even if it isn't a trap or a lie, police most likely know about it now and may be well prepared to protect those locations.
Very twisted, entertaining but provocative. No doubt this is a veiled comeon for so-called anarchists to trash the Pantry. I can think of few things that would alienate the people of Los Angeles more than to see the Pantry vandalized. If individuals hell bent on venting their frustrations by trashing property succeed then the movement will be harmed. In Seattle black-hooded thugs made the peaceful protestors' messages ineffectual. We who know that violence begets more violence need to reign in our more aggressive brothers who never knew the real stories of Ghandi and Martin Luther King.
I've seen this same post on another (NOT anarchist-related) mailing list.
It's obviously either an attempt to provoke the trashing of some poor bugger's restaurant, whether out of personal animus against the owner or a desire to create an excuse for violent suppression of protest activities, or it's a clumsy attempt at a joke.
Whatever the case, it certainly is remarkably poorly written.
The original post is most likely a trap set by police, probably anticipating some sort of "violent" response from anarchists. It is a curious display of ignorance.
Most of the anarchists in Los Angeles at the time of the protests will be at a peaceful conference discussing visions for the future of society. Somebody's gotta do it.

The Original Pantry -- Owned by Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan, The Pantry is synonymous with big portions and tasty selections. When you order a meat dish, expect a lot of meat. This place won't try to rip you off, and that is one reason why it has been so popular for so long.
While The Pantry is pretty safe during the day, take special precaution when going late at night. "I like The Pantry," said Alice Lee, a sophomore majoring in nursing, "but once I went really late at night with my friends and we were harassed by a homeless man who started yelling at us for no reason. We weren't really terrified, but it definitely wasn't a pleasurable experience."
The Original Pantry is located at 877 Figueroa St. in downtown Los Angeles. Call (213) 972-9279 for more information.
