On Wednesday, August 16th, the Minneapolis City Council held a public hearing concerning the actions and tactics of police before, during and after the conference for the International Society of Animal Geneticists. The ensuing demonstration brought out previously unseen levels of repression, brutality and media collusion in the community.
At the 3-hour public hearing, roughly 60 citizens came together to voice their frustration, fear and outrage. It was an emotional and powerful example of citizen recourse. Council VP Joe Biernat is still taking calls and emails about the incident. Additionally, Council member Rockin' Jim Niland will introduce a resolution denouncing the cuurent government practice of infiltration, pre-arrest and intimidation of activist groups. Right on, Jimmy!
