Check out the LAPD press release at:
http://www.lapdonline.org/press_releases/2000/08/pr00516.htm "Reckless Driving?" Not at all. First the police order bicyclists to the sidewalk ??? (as if they weren't vehicles at all) then they arrest any person who DOES yield by pulling over, and chase everyone else down a one-way street . . . no, the police really weren't trying to cause trouble.
Heard that the reckless driving arrests were thrown out of court, BTW.
The LAPD has got to be insane for arresting byciclists for bycycling down the streets!! The video was hilarious, yet at the same time very alarming. Is this the stage they have reached? They must have something very valuable to protect. It certainly is not the people. Are they protecting the huge super-profits of the multi-national corporations that pump money into the elections? Whatever, they are insane!
I was one of the cyclists arrested. The Reckless
Driving charge 23109(A) V.C. was what was used as
"probable cause" and allowed(?) them to arrest the
cyclists, rather than ticket and release. This
charge was later changed to obstruction
of pedestrian traffic. I've been led to believe
the initial charge didn't stick as it is entirely
motor vehicle related.
