CNN live footage of demonstrators being prevented from entering the "Protest Pit" included close-ups of many holding up their hands in a symbol of peace.
CNN's Martin Savage reported at 4:50pm on the standoff outside the Staples Center. Video showed those being prevented froom entering the "Protest Pit" holding up their hands in a symbol of peace. CNN reported that the protest is targeted against police brutality and that the march had been peaceful.
Although the segment was brief (approx. 3 minutes) it did a fair job of reporting that the force used was "excessive."

Shortly after CNN's coverage, two other mainstream media outlets followed their lead in traditional monkey see, monkey do style. MSNBC reported that the police had issued contradictory instructions to the crowd and their video detailed the recent history of police reactions to police brutality demonstrations. FOXNEWS offered a confused reporter from atop his media van claiming that police had cut the audio system and seperated two factions of the protest that "appeared to have friction with each other."
