AUGUST 16th MARCH FOR JUSTICE

in Los Angeles During the Democratic National Convention

The eyes of the world will be on L.A. during the Democratic Convention. We

have an opportunity to stand together in a cry for justice, to challenge

the ways both major parties have unleashed violence and repression against

the people. On Wednesday, August 16, people from all walks of life will

unite in a powerful and diverse Festival of Resistance/Dia de Resistencia

against rampant police brutality, mass incarceration, and the death

penalty, and against repression of dissidents and freedom fighters locked

in prison. We call on all those under the gun of this repression, and all

those who seek justice, to join an organized, spirited expression of our

freedom of speech, to demand:

Stop Police & INS/Migra Brutality!

The LAPD Rampart scandal exposed the systematic nature of unbridled police

harassment and abuse. We saw that the DA and judges go along with this

brutality and perjury. The INS works hand-in-glove with the cops and

vigilantes who hunt immigrants and singles them out for brutality on the

border and in workplaces and barrios. The coast to coast epidemic of police

and INS brutality is intensifying. Clinton added 100,000 street cops and

militarized the border. Armed by the federal government, protected by local

authorities, the cops are waging a war on the poor. The governor, mayor and

chief defy efforts to track racial profiling by cops. Nationally, over 2000

people have lost their lives at the hands of brutal law enforcement

officers in the last few years. Their lives have been stolen, but they

won't be forgotten - we can and will speak for them.
