For over a year, workers at Assi Super, a Koreatown supermarket, have struggled for recognition of the Immigrant Workers Union.? These workers have faced massive intimidation, harrassment, and discrimination from the market management when they held their election in March of 2002.? In August, the market unfairly suspended over 50 workers, the majority of whom were pro-union,?using a Social Security Administration "no-match" letter as their excuse.? Since then, the workers have staged daily boycott pickets outside of the market with the help and support of the community. ? In commemoration of the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who always fought against discrimination and for the dignity of workers, we ask the community to come and support these brave workers in a picket and candlelight vigil at the house of Assi Supermarket owner, Daniel Rhee.? Religious leaders from the community have been invited to lead the workers and community in prayers for justice.
