*1. **Feeding the 5000 on Thursday May 4: Volunteer For LA’s Huge

Communal Feast Made of Food That Would have Been Wasted! *

Feeding the 5000 LA is a

communal feast made entirely out of fresh, quality food that would

otherwise have been wasted. The event will take place in Pershing Square on

May 4th (11 am to 4 pm), and is free and open to all. Feeding the 5000

events shine a light on the global food waste scandal, champion the

delicious solutions and catalyze the global movement. Additionally, the

event will feature creative cooking demos with food that would usually be

wasted, high profile speakers, and interactive activities led

by organisations across the county who are already working to combat food

waste in LA. Invite your friends and spread the word on Facebook

.

Are you available anytime between April 22nd and May 4th? We need VOLUNTEERS

! To help chop food at

our Disco Chop party hosted

by LA Kitchen on May 2nd; cook on May 3rd; and serve our delicious feast on

May 4th. We are also looking for people to man our compost bins, talk to

and educate members of the public about food waste, help us set up and pack

up, and a whole host of other activities. Tell us your interests and

availability, and we will find the right position for you. Sign up HERE

!

*2. **Save the Date: Hunger Action Training Wed. April 26 (LA) and

Hunger Action Day May 24 (Sacramento)*

Hunger Action LA’s annual training on speaking to elected officials about

food policy will be Wednesday April 26 at 6 pm, location: St. Mary’s

Church, 961 S Mariposa (entry at 962 S Normandie). Meal will be provided.

You’ll learn about this year’s food policy issues at the state and federal

level, how to frame your presentation to elected officials, and how to join

advocates working to change things for low income, senior and disabled

Californians. RSVP: info@hungeractionla.org

The training is a must for those who are attending Hunger Action Day in

Sacramento. It will be the usual adventurous bus ride up with overnight

stay on Tuesday May 23 for a day of rallies and legislative visits on

Wednesday May 24. If you’re interested please contact

info@hungeractionla.org . All are welcome and we will send you more

logistics!

This year’s agenda includes AB 796, which if passed will finally restore

the annual cost of living raise for 1.3 million Californians living under

the poverty line with only an SSI check: AB 164 which will give California

the flexibility to deal with massive threats of cuts to SNAP coming from

the current Congress and presidential administration: and several other

bills to improve child nutrition, clarify food donation laws, and help

people coming out of prison with re-entry! Contact info@hungeractionla.org

for more details.
