The heat's on, and the kitchen is hot. Multiple sources report that there were 170 people at the KPFK Local Advisory Board meeting this week. Numerous people showed up because of an on-air flame-war, and the upshot was, there was overwhelming support for the LAB. [ Read The Story ]

If you want the latest KPFK news and details about what happened, here's a hot message forum.

The next LAB meeting is on January 19th @ Loyola Law School.

Perhaps it's Enron's unmatched $550,000 in Bush campaign contributions. Or the $57,499 John Ashcroft received from Enron and it's Chairman Kenneth Lay for his 2000 Senate re-election campaign. Or maybe it's that the most reputable accounting firm in the world, Arthur Andersen, may have secretly destroyed Enron documents even after an SEC subpoena in November. Take your pick, but the rapidly exploding Enron inquiry threatens to bury the Bush White House in a torrential scandal of money, influence, access and politics. Sound familiar?

Understanding Big Business's grip over government policy-making.

Fun Fun Fun in the Winter Sun
Saturday is ART DAY! First, at 3PM is Symboljism at the IMC. It features some old IMC-ers, and a gang of local street activists. Bring a towel!

Later, at 7 in Highland Park, is INVISIBLE An Exhibit About Immigration, Exploitation And The American Dream. It's about sweatshop labor, and the artwork is not invisible. (There are several events listed.)

There's a Cacophony Society meeting at Mr. T's in Highland Park too.

And, very importantly, a killradio benefit show at Juvee. Support your local creative outlet for adult children, by partying down at a community center for actual children!

On the 15th, the boycott to increase tomato picker wages calls for a demo at Taco Bell Headquarters in Irvine. (It's the building in the Del Taco commercials. [The Spectacle recuperates all.])

Coming up in February is the big SPAN conference, a convergence of student peace activists. They're doing a media workshop, so if you want to participate, drop a note to the IMC-LA and help set it up.

And, down in Long Beach (you know, where the cops beat you up) a new infoshop has opened up, named A-Occasions. They have a calendar of events full of important activities. Copwatch, Anti War organizing, performance art, Middle Eastern culture, and veganism.

Anti-capitalist convergence in Manhattan are in for a pretty difficult weekend of protests against the WEF meetings, and will need all the support they can get. A Yellow Overall was analytical about the shape of contemporary protest, and prospects for mass action near "ground zero".

Why protest the WEF? The annual World Economic Forum is probably the single most influencial set of meetings amongst the forces of Transnational Capital -- it's where these forces coordinate their economic and political agenda. If you want to learn about some of their recent handiwork, just scroll down and read about Argentina.

LA's radical minstrels, the Billionaires for Bush, were up in Portland to give Bush some hell, activists in Oregon got some audio.

CNN recently reported, in a largely meaningless fluff piece, that the most influential people are all Republicans.
